Procrastination is the thief of time

Children now are already starving for time. Yet so much of their time is often “stolen” by procrastination. Study assignments that should take an hour take three hours. Time that could be spent more meaningfully is wasted in vain.

Procrastination shouldn’t just be bribed away

We know it’s frustrating trying to beat procrastination. We’ve nagged, threatened with punishment and incentivised with treats. It works.
Occasionally.
Incentives may help them get started, but it is not sustainable. We should instead address the root issue.

No more “I’ll do it later”

Procrastination is not a willpower issue; it’s a problem of perspective. To your child, the task may seem too boring or too overwhelming, so they avoid starting. They’d do anything but that one thing they need to do.

Our Overcoming Procrastination programme

We’ve put together a 2-hour programme to help reduce procrastination.  Through games-based activities, we coach kids how to:

  • Plan and prioritise work to make it less overwhelming

  • Take the first step to motivate further focus

  • Removing distractions to sustain momentum

Key takeaways

At the end of this workshop, kids will have a better awareness of the root causes of procrastination and the skills to overcome these causes. They will also bring home a personal action plan for the next time they need to start work on time.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’re here to help

Who is this programme most suitable for?

This programme is especially helpful for children aged 10–14 (Primary 4 to Secondary 2) who:

  • Struggle to start homework at the scheduled times
  • Complete a lot of work last minute
  • Deliver shoddy or rushed work because of a lack of time doing this work

Many children are still developing these skills at this age. This programme is designed to support them in a positive, age-appropriate way.

Why does addressing procrastination matter?

Research shows that a majority of students struggle with procrastination, and that procrastination can make up a significant portion of one's day. This leads to stress and overwhelm in daily activities as students and their families try to make up for that time.

Procrastination has negative impact on academic performance and eventually poorer career outcomes as the students enter the workforce.

Addressing procrastination early in youths' development builds confidence to take on and complete bigger and more difficult tasks, allowing them to reach their full potential.

What is the coach-to-child ratio?

Children are grouped in small teams, with a maximum coach-to-child ratio of 1:6.

Group sizes are kept small to ensure individual attention and a supportive learning environment.

What is the programme experience like?

We aim to make the learning experience fun for your child. To help your child learn better, they’ll be guided to participate in interactive hands-on activities and challenges that provide opportunities for interaction and teamwork. There will also be a self reflection segment at the end to wrap up the learning experience.

Sessions are:

  • Small-group based
  • Age-appropriate and interactive
  • Facilitated by trained educators and coaches
  • Designed with a balance of activity, discussion, and reflection

We cultivate an environment that is supportive and encouraging, helping children feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow.

Will my child need to bring anything?

Students should bring basic study essentials (e.g. stationery, water bottle, and a light jacket). All learning materials will be provided.

Can I get a refund if my child can’t attend?

Programme fees are non-refundable once your booking is confirmed. This includes cases of late arrival, early departure, non-attendance, or withdrawal after enrolment.

You may request to transfer your booking to another available programme of equal value, subject to availability. All change requests can be made online/ through a written notice to hello@ha-academy.com at least 5 working days before the start date of the programme.

We understand that exceptional situations can arise. Requests relating to serious medical conditions or other compelling reasons may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis at the Academy’s discretion. Please refer to our full Refund Policy for details.
